10/6 Evening Update

Hi Everybody,

Photo from Marti deAnguera

I just wanted to say that Courtney is coping much better today, there's not as much kicking and cringing. The nurses have her scheduled to take Atavan as needed, we want it to clean out of her system gradually. Since she isn't able to express herself fully, her folks and I have tried to make the best decisions for her as possible.

Julie and Marty said Court's maiden voyage outside yesterday went well aside from a little dreariness and agitation. Too bad the unnaturally beautiful Burlington weather hasn't held up today as its been pouring all afternoon. There's always tomorrow.

We Love you Courtney and we can't wait to have you back safe and sound.

-Sean

hmmmmm,

What a gorgeous picture of Courtney! Thanks for posting it, Sean. To me, this is such a picture of health and happiness. It's how I always like to picture Courtney.

Good luck with Court tonight, Martha. I hope all goes well. I'll be thinking about you all.

I just said good night to Courtney as Martha is spending the night with her tonight. She looks awake but peaceful and pondering... perhaps her situation....BUT I just want to add that she is VERY alert and communicative tonight. I asked her quite a few questions and she reponded by trying to say yes with her mouth. When I asked her other questions she would smile for yes and frown or turn away for no. She genuinely seemed to understand most everything I said. I tried to coach her on some inapproapriate sign language to some of the people she has harrassing her. Then I asked her if she wanted to practice it with her right hand she lifted her right hand and tried with her first two fingers! GO Court!!! This girl is truly amazing. I know I keep saying that, but she keeps showing me and others that it's true! Give this girl a challenge and she'll meet it. She is doing great considering all the obstacles she has had to overcome! She has already leaped over quite a few. I know we have a long road ahead of us but she and we are ready for the challenge.
Thank you all for your continued amazing support and constant flow of emails, cards and the comments on this blog. I couldn't be here for her as strongly without your help....thank you one and all!
Greatfully and humblely, Julie

Very impressive, Courtney! What great news. I wish I could have been to see her respond. I hope the rest of the night went as well. Even with the ups and downs, Court will always prevail!

Love,

Marti

Hi Julie,
that is SO cool to hear about Courtney's responses last night. I feel very strongly that our same old girl is in there, and that when she is awake and feeling good (w/out all the drugs) she shows us that she is still right there! I wanted to say how great YOU sound too, I know it is such an up and down road, but you seem more than up to the challenge. I am amazed by you!
Much love, and I can't wait to visit again soon,
Val

My mother and I are still praying for Courtney's full recovery and peace of mind.

It is so wonderful that so many people are helping.

We are also praying for the family and friends' peace of mind and strength.

Great idea, Sean, this website!!

My name is Ann Parent. My daughter, Kate Houghton, graduated a year after Courtney from Medomak H.S. She and Courtney went to D.C. together for a youth congress when in H.S.
I learned of Courtney's crisis when at the dentist's last week. I immediately called my church (Methodist in the town of Union) to add Courtney to our prayer chain. I could not identify her without family permisssion---so just identified her as a friend of Kate's. Several people in church asked today if they could pray for a person with a name....Could you ask Julie if she would mind if I let people know who they are praying for?
I am so moved by your love for Courtney in your blogs...she is lucky to have such a wonderful group of friends....
I have let several of Courtney h.s. friends (in the class below her) know of the need to keep her in their prayers....as we do for you all and Julie. God bless you all.

I've just finished reading Mom Julie's posting from Saturday night...for about the tenth time. I couldn't help myself; it was great to hear everything Julie described! I think right now my smile could almost rival that famous smile of Courtney's. Thanks, Julie. Go, Courtney!
Love,
